Pakistan has created 61 standards for electronic items to curb the import of substandard electronics into the country.
Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry made the announcement to the change in policy in a series of tweets. He said, “As promised, the Ministry of Science and Technology has approved 61 standards for electronics items. These standards will be implemented after the approval of the cabinet”.
He tweeted that the move meant that all sorts of switches and boards would not be imported into the country and only quality electronic products would be sold in Pakistan.
He said that in the next step, the standard of cars and tractors manufactured in the country would be upgraded. “If we want to move forward in the world, we must create and implement standards,” he added in another tweet.
Chaudhry said that Federal Minister of Industries and Production Hammad Azhar had assured him of full cooperation for creating and implementation of standard. The minister said that the support of the industry was must in this regard.
